The Game

The Age Cut Short is a storytelling game for 1-5 players. It explores a small but influential institution in its twilight decades before its destruction, whether that be a great library, market, stronghold, or temple. You will learn the mission that defined this organization, the struggles they faced in its pursuit, and the mark they left upon the world after their passing.

  • The Archivists are a group of scholars seeking to preserve knowledge and culture in a crumbling empire.
  • The Mission seeks to spread faith to the natives of a distant and wild region.
  • The Guild is an association of merchants seeking to gather wealth for themselves and others through both legitimate and underhanded means.
  • The Stronghold seeks to protect the kingdom from its most dangerous enemies, on the battlefield and through cloak and dagger.
  • The Barons are a group of influential nobles, merchants, and politicians whose whims steer the fate of their empire.

Players draw this order's compound on a sheet of paper and change it over time as projects expand it and events damage it.

Components Required

  • Sheet of paper (the larger the better) and a pencil

Future Development Plans

  • The Pioneer Corps, a group of skilled craftsmen seeking to tame the wilderness and preserve their relevance as the world passes them by.

  • Quality of Life changes as the game receives more feedback and playtests.
